McKinsey article pointed out that ‘Learning itself is a skill. Unlocking the mindsets and skills to develop it can boost personal and professional lives and deliver a competitive edge’.
Such intentional learning is critical in today’s world which is volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous. Change is the only constant and it is accelerating.
At The Brainery, we believe that to navigate such a world successfully, students must go beyond mere knowledge acquisition and also be equipped with the correct mindset and skills. As future employees, they must be adaptable and open to lifelong learning. As the Mckinsey report has pointed out, ‘People who have mastered the mindsets and skills of effective learning can grow faster than their peers and gain more of the benefits from all the learning opportunities that come their way.’
This philosophy underpins The Brainery’s learning system which is built around 6 dispositions; we aim to make our students Mindful, Purposeful, always Curious, demonstrating Clarity, Confidence and a Growth mindset. In short, along with knowledge, we offer a headstart in developing the skills of effective learning.
Mindful
We aim to make our students focused and independent. To achieve this, our tutors are intentional about the way they teach. They will do frequent check-ins throughout the lessons to ensure that the students are on the same page as them. With clear direction and continuous support, the students will achieve mindfulness in their learning and always be alert, receptive and ready to welcome more
Always Curious
According to the philosopher John Locke, “Curiosity in children is but an appetite for knowledge.” Our tutors seek to train their students to ask the right questions and to dig more deeply. The Brainery students will seek out the “why” and the “why not” enthusiastically, to feed their appetite for knowledge..
Clarity
The Brainery students will be very clear as to how to achieve their learning and academic goals.
At The Brainery, our tutors are trained to be aware of each student’s start point and ensure that learning is customised to individual needs. During the lessons, they will reinforce concepts and checkpoints with the students, clearing any uncertainty that they may have. This gives The Brainery students clarity as they will have a clear vision of the learning outcomes and their progress.
Confidence
Confidence is the key to success.
Our tutors will guide students to be aware of what they have learnt and be ready for the next step. They will challenge their students academically whilst building on their individual strengths. As a result, The Brainery students will be confident in their learning, be able and willing to think outside the box and always eager to learn.
Shows Growth
Well supported in their learning, The Brainery students are not afraid of failure, seeing it as another step to success. This mindset will enable them to develop courage and belief in themselves, setting the foundation for a successful future.
Our teachers achieve this through proper communication, and the creation of a nurturing environment which encourages continuous learning.
At The Brainery, we believe that learning is a skill and developing the skills as a lifelong learner ensures that our students will find success as citizens in the future world , whether as worker, learner or another of their many roles in life.
